Come with me to breakfast in Tijuana, because these chilaquiles deserved more than a quick mention.
Café de la Flor was one of those finds I wanted my San Diego friends to know about. The chilaquiles were the highlight for me. My verdict was “grandma-approved,” and I was very enthusiastic about how they compared with the ones I had tried in San Diego.
Add a big breakfast menu, matcha and a full bakery and you have a very good reason to make breakfast the plan.
Chilaquiles first
If you are looking through the menu and wondering where to start, the chilaquiles are what made me want to share this spot. They were the part of breakfast I was most excited about and the reason Café de la Flor went on my Tijuana food list.
There is plenty for the rest of the table too. The breakfast menu includes egg dishes, slams, pancakes and crepes, so everyone can go in a different direction. A savory breakfast for one person and something sweet for another works just fine here.
Matcha and a bakery stop
Matcha is on the drinks menu too, including options like a coconut matcha latte. If coffee is usually your default breakfast order, this gives you something else to look at while you decide.

And then there is the bakery. Having breakfast and a selection of cakes and desserts in the same place is a combination I wanted to point out. Leave yourself a moment to see what looks good rather than heading straight out after your meal.
Save it for a Tijuana morning
Café de la Flor has several Tijuana locations, including Chapultepec, Otay, Plaza Río and Playas. Choose the one that fits the rest of your day and check that branch’s hours before heading over.

If you are coming from San Diego, give yourself room for transportation and the border crossing in both directions. It is much nicer to enjoy breakfast when you are not already worrying about the next stop.
For me, the draw was simple: chilaquiles I really enjoyed, plenty of breakfast choices and the option to add matcha or something from the bakery. Save this one for a morning when you want to sit down and enjoy your Tijuana food outing.
