If your idea of a weekend away includes your pup, here’s a detail worth knowing about The Portofino Hotel & Marina: the hotel welcomes dogs.
The waterfront setting was such a lovely part of my birthday weekend in Redondo Beach. While that post is all about cocktails, flowers and our sunset cruise, I wanted to give the dog-friendly side of the hotel a little space of its own.
A stay with your pup might look a little different, with more time for wandering and fewer back-to-back plans. That sounds like a nice excuse to slow down by the water.
A few things to know before you go
The hotel’s pet policy welcomes dogs only, with up to two per room and a $150 nonrefundable pet fee. Pet-friendly rooms are subject to availability, so let the hotel know your pup is joining you when you book and confirm the current fee.
For meals and outings, a quick chat with the hotel will help you plan. Its amenities page says dogs aren’t allowed in the gym, pool, restaurants or bars, while its FAQ describes broader access to public areas on a leash. Ask which spaces your dog can join you in and whether they can be left alone in the room. It’s worth checking separately with any boat or activity you have in mind too.
Keep the weekend easy
Pack your dog’s usual food, leash, waste bags and a favorite toy, then give yourselves a little breathing room in the itinerary. A familiar routine can make a new place easier for your pup, and you still get a change of scenery.
The harbor views are what I keep coming back to when I think about The Portofino. If you’ve been looking for a coastal getaway where bringing your dog is an option, this is one to have on your list. Start with a call to the hotel, then make the weekend your own.
