Hello Kitty toilet paper is not something you see on every shopping trip, but it was one of the things that caught my attention at EBISU La Jolla. This store has the kind of mix that makes it very easy to keep saying, “Wait, look at this.”
There are Japanese snacks, beauty products, anime collectibles and all sorts of little character finds. If you want a break from pumpkin patches and Halloween bars this October, a cute-store afternoon is a nice change of pace.
Start with the Hello Kitty finds
The Hello Kitty items were a big part of what I loved here. Along with the character-themed household products, there were plushies and blind boxes to browse.
It is a fun place to look for a small gift, especially if your friend has a favorite character. A visible item makes that choice easier, while a blind box leaves it up to the surprise. Either way, the browsing is a big part of the outing.
My basket did not stop at collectibles
My haul included Japanese chips, fried chicken ice cream and a sugar-glazed fruit treat. The snack section gives you plenty to look through even if you are not shopping for character goods.
I also bought Korean makeup. Having beauty products in the same store as snacks and collectibles is what makes EBISU feel like several little shopping stops in one.
You do not have to leave with a huge haul. A snack you have not tried and one cute find can be plenty. If you pick up anything frozen, save that part for the end so you can keep browsing first.
