I’m on the hunt for the best burger in San Diego, and my first stop was Hodad’s. They’re known for massive bacon cheeseburgers, but the burgers aren’t the only reason to come hungry. The onion rings and shakes are huge too.
Burgers, onion rings and Frings
The onion rings are some of the biggest I’ve ever seen. If you want fries and onion rings, you can order Frings and get both. That’s a useful option when you’re sharing and don’t want to choose just one side.
It’s worth checking the portion sizes before you order. The current Ocean Beach food menu lists half Frings as serving three to four people and a full order as serving five to six. The burger menu also has mini, single and double options, so you can plan around how hungry you are and how many sides you want.
Leave room for a shake
Don’t skip the shakes. They’re thick, massive and come with the frosty metal mixing cup on the side.
You can go with chocolate, vanilla or strawberry, or get all three flavors in a Neapolitan shake. Those four options are on the current Ocean Beach drink menu, along with chocolate, vanilla and strawberry malts.
Hodad’s was stop one on my burger hunt, so I’m not calling a winner yet. Where should I try next?
