Did you know you can get Día de los Muertos-inspired skull cakes in San Diego? Le Parfait Paris gives its French desserts a calavera design, and the details are so pretty. Think little floral cutouts, sculpted faces and layered cakes made for a dessert date.
The collection featured in my video comes in three flavors: Mango Bliss, Signature and Noisette. Each cake serves two, so you can pick one to share with a friend or compare a couple of flavors around the table. The hardest part might be convincing yourself to make that first cut.
A closer look at the skull cakes
My photos show both the brown and pale yellow designs, with intricate toppers sitting over the cakes. The layered yellow cake is especially easy to see from the side, while the brown cake has a textured coating. They’re worth looking at up close before you reach for a fork.

Parfait Paris is a family-run French bakery that started in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter in 2014. It now has several locations around San Diego County, so you can work a pastry stop into the part of town you’re already visiting.
