Sometimes the question is not “what’s on Friday?” but “what do we feel like hearing?” This guide groups selected October 24–31, 2026 San Diego County shows by sound and the kind of night they suit. The genre labels are broad listening shortcuts, not boxes that every artist fits into neatly.
Checked October 24, 2026. Times are Pacific. This is a companion to the date-by-date concert calendar, with comparisons to help you choose. Ticket links do not guarantee availability. Check age rules, current prices and final times on the official listing before buying.
Indie and alternative: arena scale or a smaller room?
For a larger production, start with beabadoobee with Wisp, October 24 at 8 p.m. at Viejas Arena. For a 21+ room, Frog with Mildred at Casbah, October 25 at 8 p.m. is another route. The useful choice here is the room as much as the artist: check the seating or standing arrangement on your exact ticket.
Switchfoot with Anberlin, October 24 at 8 p.m. at The Sound in Del Mar gives you an all-ages option north of San Diego. For a heavier alternative-rock pick, Failure with Quannnic plays Music Box on October 29 at 8 p.m.; that show is 21+. These venues are in different parts of the county, so choose the show before booking dinner.
Hip-hop, R&B and pop crossover: pick your part of town
Bryson Tiller plays October 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Chula Vista at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre. If an SDSU arena night works better, compare YG on October 25 at 8 p.m. with Doja Cat and Latto on October 27 at 7:30 p.m.. They are different nights, not competing slots you need to squeeze together.
For an alternative and hip-hop crossover bill, Gorillaz, Little Simz and Deltron 3030 play Pechanga Arena on October 25 at 7:30 p.m.. That makes Sunday a real choice between artists and venues. Set up the required AXS mobile ticket ahead of time if you choose Pechanga Arena.
Jazz and swing: outdoors, seated sets or a big band
Julian Lage Quartet at UC San Diego on October 24 is the outdoor guitar-jazz choice. The venue’s updated quartet start is 7:45 p.m., with gates at 6:30 p.m. Do not plan around the former opener: Laura Itandehui is no longer performing.
Prefer a seated 21+ show? John Scofield joins Oteil Burbridge, Larry Goldings and Adam Deitch at Belly Up in Solana Beach on October 27. Choose the 7 p.m. show or the separately ticketed 9:30 p.m. show. For a larger swing ensemble instead, Lizzy & the Triggermen brings its 10-piece band to Belly Up on October 29 at 7:30 p.m.; that night is also 21+.
Funk and jam: check the age rule first
WAR at Belly Up in Solana Beach, October 24 at 8 p.m. is a 21+ option. Pigeons Playing Ping Pong with Dizgo at Observatory North Park, October 31 at 6:30 p.m. is all ages and general-admission standing. If your group includes someone under 21, that is a much more useful starting point than comparing ticket prices for a show they cannot enter.
Singer-songwriters and classic pop: a seated night out
Howie Day with Matthew Phillips at Belly Up, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. is a seated solo-show plan in Solana Beach for ages 21+. Tom Jones at The Rady Shell, October 27 at 8 p.m. offers a different setting on the San Diego waterfront. Tom Jones uses reserved chairs with no lawn seating or tables, and the San Diego Symphony is not part of that performance. Choose this one by the actual seat you want, not by a general idea of a Shell lawn picnic.
Latin: Yandel’s SINFÓNICO
Yandel: SINFÓNICO is at Viejas Arena on October 30 at 8 p.m.. Keep the official tour title in mind when comparing it with other listings. The show is at SDSU, not at the downtown ballpark or a North County club.
Classical: free waterfront concert or a family morning
Sound of Two Cities, October 30 at 7:30 p.m. at The Rady Shell pairs the San Diego Symphony with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal under Rafael Payare. It is free and non-ticketed; an RSVP sends updates but does not hold a seat. This is the budget-friendly evening option, with limited first-come chairs.
For a daytime plan with children, Trick or Treat Symphony starts at 11 a.m. on October 31 at Jacobs Music Center. Pre-concert activities start an hour earlier. It is a ticketed family concert, so do not confuse it with the free Shell event the night before.
Heavy music and electronic nights: two very different plans
Knocked Loose and Denzel Curry share the October 30 bill at Gallagher Square, with a 7 p.m. show and 6 p.m. doors. Superheaven and Boundaries are also listed. This is the heavy-music and rap crossover option, not a dance festival.
For bass music and house-leaning dance sounds, WonkyWilla and The Sponges play Music Box on October 31 at 9 p.m.. The 21+ event is billed as WonkyWilla x Same Same But Different, but it is a single club show. The separate Chris Stussy event at Gallagher Square was sold out when checked, so it is not a dependable last-minute alternative.
The short version
Start with the artist, then narrow by age rule, seated versus standing and location. An all-ages listing does not guarantee every kind of ticket is suitable for your group. Use the venue’s own ticket page, and save the chronological guide if the date is your deciding factor.
