I had a chance to unbox my sister’s new iPhone Duo, and I’m sharing a closer look here, complete with her pink bow wallpaper. Unfolded on the table, it has little hearts and flowers across the larger screen. A new phone can look very different once someone has made it their own.
This is an unboxing first look rather than a long-term review. Alongside the personal details, here is what Apple’s published information says about the design.
A familiar shape, then something different
Opened into landscape, the phone becomes a much wider canvas. The pale case frames the screen, while the wallpaper stretches across the display. You get a sense of the different proportions without needing a perfectly styled product shot.
Apple introduced the iPhone Duo as its first foldable iPhone on September 9, with availability beginning October 23. If you have been seeing the name everywhere, this is the model that opens into a larger display rather than another size of the familiar single-screen iPhone. (Apple’s iPhone Duo announcement)
Apple lists a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. The phone weighs 254 grams and measures 11.3 mm thick when closed or 5.2 mm when open. Those numbers are useful context, but trying the folded phone in your hand will tell you more about whether the shape suits you. (Apple’s iPhone Duo technical specifications)
The pink bow moment
The bow wallpaper brings a softer look to a device that could easily be photographed as a very serious piece of technology. Against the wooden table, the pink pattern and pale case keep the images personal rather than showroom-perfect.
The wallpaper is also a reminder that a phone quickly becomes a personal object. A favorite pattern, a case and the way you arrange your screen can give the same device a completely different mood.
Before choosing your own
Comfort matters too. Before buying, try opening and closing a display model, type a short message on the outer screen and see how it fits in the bag or pocket you actually use. Consider whether you would reach for the bigger screen often enough to make the extra size worthwhile.
My sister’s unboxing gives this first look its personal starting point. For anyone considering their own Duo, the next step is to look beyond that opening moment and think about an ordinary day: where the phone goes, what you do on it and whether the fold makes those things easier.
