Inside the Marigold Room, El Sueño’s Día de los Muertos Speakeasy

Two Halloween-themed cocktails in stemmed glasses on a wooden table at El Sueño.

If your idea of an October night out involves a cute outfit and a cocktail, put the Marigold Room on your list. This Día de los Muertos pop-up is tucked upstairs at El Sueño in Old Town, with marigolds, candlelight and colorful skeletons filling the space.

I shared it when it opened on October 17, 2026. The moody cocktails and all those little decor details give you plenty to look at before you even decide what to order.

Head upstairs at El Sueño

You enter through the cantina at 2836 Juan Street and head upstairs to the Marigold Room. An ofrenda, papel picado and marigolds bring the Día de los Muertos theme into the room. It feels like a reason to linger over the evening rather than just pop in for one seasonal drink.

You can have dinner here, too. Queso fundido, aguachile and birria tacos are on the menu, along with churros and fried ice cream if you want to end on something sweet. That makes it easy to meet friends in one place and let dinner turn into drinks.

A little help choosing a cocktail

The seasonal menu has eight cocktails listed at $16 each. Beetlejuice brings together melon and lime, while Graveyard goes in a sweeter direction with marshmallow whiskey and chocolate cream. The PSL combines pumpkin spice, cinnamon whiskey and espresso, so there is an option for the friend who always orders a coffee cocktail.

The room is walk-in only, with seating first come, first served. Its posted hours are 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday and Sunday and 6 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is closed Monday through Wednesday.

El Sueño has not announced a closing date for the pop-up, so have a look at the Marigold Room page before heading over. For now, it is a lovely excuse to spend an evening in Old Town and dress up a little.
